Last week I got inspired by a post in a group that I belong to. I did a test run of the concept using my existing website and it worked out well. That prompted me to buy a new domain on Monday.
The post referred to opening your mind to other business opportunities in your industry. This concept is called “Blue Ocean Strategy” which is a concept created by authors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne.
“Kim & Mauborgne argue that companies can succeed not by battling competitors, but rather by creating ″blue oceans″ of uncontested market space. They assert that these strategic moves create a leap in value for the company, its buyers, and its employees, while unlocking new demand and making the competition irrelevant.”
How does this apply to the new site? I took the relatively new expanding market of children’s authors, and then added digital scrapbook designers (a market that is on the decline).
The issue for children’s authors is that most of them do not have designing skills and illustrators cost a lot of money. By using the elements provided in the pack they can put together an illustration using MS Word or a similar product for a much lower capital investment. And they can re-use all the graphics for a series of books.
For the digital scrapbook designers, I opened up a brand new market for them.
It’s a win-win for both industries.
I installed Word Press, added all the plugins, got some advice about which affiliate software to use, installed the e-commerce solution and loaded my first 4 products.
Yesterday two more products were added and my goal is add two new products a day.
The Designer and Affiliate application forms and agreements were written and I tidied up a few loose ends. Then I wrote out my marketing plan for the next 12 months. This week I will add free tutorials on how to use the graphics in MS Word etc for the people who do not have access to graphic design software. I will use these tutorials as lead generators to my mailing list and store.
There is still a lot of work to be done but it does not have to be perfect. It just has to happen.
It does not have to be perfect. It just has to happen”
36 hours after buying the domain I made my first sale.
So my question to you is this – What can you do in the next 36 hours that will generate revenue for you? What is stopping you from taking action now? What kinds of new services or products can you add to your business that will create a brand new market for you?
