When you are starting out, there is nothing wrong with kick-starting your writing career — and getting the best-looking cover for your book is essential.
It’s often recommended that you get professional designers to do it for you, but they can be quite expensive.
My eBook Cover is a great site for helping you that done, and I’ve been using it for quite a while.
You get a selection of free 3D templates and scores of free backgrounds and images. There are also paid options available either on a once-off basis or you can take out a monthly subscription.
This tutorial shows you how to use My eCover Maker.
One thing to bear in mind is that the cover graphic must have a height/width ratio of at least 1:6.
What this means that the shortest side of your cover must be at least 625 pixels and the longest side at least 1000 pixels.
For the best results, Amazon suggests that you use 1563 pixels for the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side.
